Why it exists
Pressure matters less than people think — but inconsistent pressure matters a great deal. Tamp at 20 lb one morning and 35 the next and you are moving a variable while trying to read another one.
Spring-loaded mechanism with an audible click at the set load, and a ripple base that leaves a shallow textured surface rather than a polished seal. The depth indicator on the collar shows how far the base has travelled, which tells you whether your dose has drifted.
Level the bed first, press straight down until it clicks once, lift without twisting. Choose the base diameter that matches your basket, not your portafilter's outer rim.
